Message from Executive Director
Leadership and Vision for Ethical Research Excellence in Liberia
Dr. James Wilson
Executive Director
National Research Ethics Board of Liberia
Dear Colleagues, Researchers, and Partners,
It is with great pleasure and optimism that I address you as the Executive Director of the National Research Ethics Board of Liberia. As we continue to advance our mission of ensuring ethical standards in research for national development, I am reminded daily of the critical role we play in safeguarding the rights and welfare of research participants while promoting scientific excellence.
Over the past year, NREBL has made significant strides in strengthening Liberia's research ethics framework. We have successfully reviewed and approved over 500 research protocols, trained more than 1,000 researchers and ethics committee members, and established partnerships with leading international organizations. These achievements reflect our unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest ethical standards while supporting innovative research that addresses Liberia's most pressing challenges.
Looking ahead, our focus remains on three key priorities: enhancing our digital infrastructure to streamline application processes, expanding our capacity building programs to reach more institutions across the country, and strengthening our monitoring and compliance systems to ensure ongoing adherence to ethical standards throughout research lifecycles. We are particularly excited about the upcoming launch of our online application portal, which will reduce review times by up to 40% and provide real-time tracking for researchers.
I want to extend my deepest gratitude to our dedicated staff, board members, and technical committees whose expertise and commitment continue to drive our success. I also thank our international partners and stakeholders for their invaluable collaboration and support. Together, we are building a research ecosystem in Liberia that is both ethically sound and scientifically rigorous.
To our researchers and institutions, I want to assure you that NREBL remains your dedicated partner in advancing knowledge while upholding the highest ethical standards. We are here to support you through every step of the research process, from protocol development to implementation and monitoring. Your success is our success, and we are committed to facilitating research that makes meaningful contributions to our society.
As we move forward, let us continue to work together with integrity, transparency, and excellence. The future of research in Liberia is bright, and with your continued partnership, we will ensure that it is also ethically sound and socially responsible.
Thank you for your continued trust and collaboration.
Sincerely,
Dr. James Wilson
